The Timbers Get Shaken by the Earthquakes, Lose 2-1

In a match that largely favored the Timbers heading into Avaya Stadium, the San Jose Earthquakes took to their home pitch with something to prove, playing with their backs against the wall and their post season hopes on the line. They would defeat the Timbers 2-1 in a game that never seemed close.

Not even Diego Valeri could get the ball in the net as his record setting MLS scoring streak ends at 9 matches. A goal by Sebastian Blanco would give the Timbers a hint of momentum in the 87th minute, but a 2-goal deficit would prove too much to overcome.

The Timbers will return to Providence Park to face D.C. United on October 15th.
