It was not a good series for the Mariners. Boston scored 34 runs in the three game series, and blew out Seattle on Sunday 11-2 to complete the sweep.

Rain came down almost the entire game, albeit lighter rain early. The M’s defense did not help starter Marco Gonzales, a passed ball, an error and a number of “non-error” miscues.

Edwin Encarnacion got the Mariners on the board early with runners at 2nd and 3rd with a sacrifice fly. 1-0 M’s.

With two outs, J.D. Martinez slugged a solo homer and tied the game 1-1.

Still with two down, Michael Chavis popped up towards the right field line and Shed Long slipped on the wet grass. Chavis’ ball landed fair and a run scored. 2-1 Boston.

The next pitch from Marco Gonzales hit off the glove of catcher Omar Narvaez, and Rafael Devers scampered home and added to the Red Sox lead, 3-1.

The nightmare continued in the second for Gonzales as Jay Bruce committed an error in shallow right field. Andrew Benintendi came in to score, 4-1 Boston.

In the fifth, Omar Narvaez made up for his earlier error, at least a little bit. Narvaez’s solo blast brought the lead down to 2, 4-2 Red Sox.

Spoke too soon. In the home half of the fifth, Chavis hit a 2-RBI Single. 6-2 Boston.

In the seventh inning, Devers added on for Boston with an RBI ground out. 7-2 Red Sox.

Boston continued the long seventh with a second Chavis 2-RBI Single of the day. 9-2 Sox.

J.D. Martinez wasn’t satisfied up 9-2, so he crushed a two run bomb over the Green Monster. 11-2 Boston.

The game ended on a Narvaez ground out. 11-2 Red Sox win.

Despite the loss, a cool moment came for Mariners reliever Parker Markel. He spent 10 years in the minor leagues before making his Major League debut today. His line finished with 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB.

Winning Pitcher, (1-2) Hector Velazquez: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB

Losing Pitcher, (5-2) Marco Gonzales: 4.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 K, 3 BB
