CAZORLA SELECTED BY ATLANTA IN SECOND ROUND OF WNBA DRAFT

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon women’s basketball guard Maite Cazorla was selected by the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday in the 2019 WNBA draft.

Cazorla was taken with the 11th pick of the second round and the 23rd pick overall.

She is the eighth player in program history to be drafted and the first since forward Jillian Alleyne was take with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 draft.

“I am so happy and excited for Maite,” said head coach Kelly Graves. “She has been so good and so consistent for this team for four years. I think Atlanta is a perfect fit for her and she’s going to love playing for Nicki Collen. She has a real chance to be a factor in the league for a long time. We’re all pulling for her. Maite’s a winner and the Dream fans are going to love her.”

Cazorla, an all-Pac-12 selection as a junior and senior, started and played in 146 career games over her four-year career in Eugene, both program records.

She averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from three. As a senior in 2018-19, the Las Palmas, Spain, native shot a career-high 41.2 percent from three and had 165 assists compared to just 54 turnovers.

Cazorla helped the Ducks to a 113-45 record, the best four-year mark in program history. Oregon advanced to the Elite Eight in both 2017 and 2018 before advancing to the program’s first ever Final Four in 2019.
