Seattle thought they had a home run when Ryon Healy blasted a ball toward the left field foul pole. However, the umpires ruled it incorrectly as the M’s daily dinger. Instead, after replay’s help, ruled a foul ball. Then, Healy struck out in the at bat. That sequence pretty much defined Wednesday’s afternoon game.

Seattle and Cleveland managed just six hits combined and the two starting pitchers, Indians’ Carlos Carrasco and Mariners’ Erik Swanson, put on a show. Sadly, for the M’s it didn’t end with a win.

Erik Swanson made his MLB debut and kept the Indians quiet until the fifth inning when Jake Bauers hit a solo home run. 1-0 Cleveland.

The Mariners couldn’t really get any offense going. They had three hits (two were doubles) but couldn’t score a run. 1-0 Final.

Seattle’s streak of hitting a home run in each game to start the season ended in today’s game. The streak ends at 20 games, which is both a Mariners and MLB record for consecutive games to start a season with a home run.

Winning Pitcher, (2-2) Carlos Carrasco: 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 12 K, 2 BB

Losing Pitcher, (0-1) Erik Swanson: 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 K, 0 BB

Save, (1) Nick Wittgren: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB

Notes:

  • First career MLB start for Erik Swanson; finished with 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 5 K and unfortunately the loss.
  • After avoiding series losses in their first five series (two were two game series), the M’s have lost back-to-back series; both series Seattle lost in sweeps.
  • Seattle heads back on the road, where the team is 6-1 so far.
  • The Mariners have lost six straight, all at home; three to Houston and three to Cleveland.
