When the Timbers entered Toyota Park in Chicago to face off against the Fire- they did so with some momentum. Their 1-1 draw against F.C. Dallas two weeks ago was a victory that showed signs of progress from a Timbers club under the guidance of a new head coach – Giovanni Savarese. With 2 losses and 1 draw on the season, the Timbers took the pitch in Chicago looking to capture their first victory of the season.

The Timbers dominated the first half, and Diego Valeri would be the first to strike with a goal in the 6th minute…

The Timbers would enter the locker room with a 1-0 lead at half. But, the second half would bring better things for the Chicago – with a goal by the Fire’s Nemanja Nikolić in the 50th…

The Timbers and Fire would end up trading goals one more time in the second half of play, finding themselves in a 2-2 draw by the final whistle. While it’s not what Timbers fans were hoping for, the strong defensive and offensive play of the Timbers in the first half showed some very promising signs from a team in the midst of a large transition.

Looking ahead – the Timbers will take on Orlando City in Orlando, next Sunday at 1pm. You can catch all the action on The Game!
