The Timbers were trailing 1-0 to Houston in the 68th minute and it looked like they were going to drop their second match in a row. That’s when head coach Gio Savarese decided to turn to newly acquired Brian Fernandez for a spark. It took him just thirteen minutes to equalize the match, and eventually grab a much needed point for the Timbers.

Fernandez changed the shape and style of the Timbers offensive attack and makes them a much more difficult team to prepare for in the future. With Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco, and now Brian Fernandez spearheading that attack, the Timbers look to be in good shape.

The match was pretty evenly played as both teams had 19 and 16 shots respectively, Houston had 51 percent of possession, and the Timbers had 4 corner kicks to the Dynamo’s 3. The big difference was Jeff Attinella, who made 8 saves which kept Portland in the game early.

The Timbers now have 11 points on the season, and up next they take on Philadelphia Union next Saturday. That match will be their last away match before heading home to Providence Park for the first time all season.
